On October 28, 2016 the International Maritime Organization's 70th Marine Environment Protection Committee meeting concluded. During the week-long meeting, the Committtee passed new requirements for Sulphur Content of fuel oil used on ships. A new 0.5% m/m (mass/mass) Sulphur content cap will replace the current 3.5% m/m standard.
The new requirment won't take effect until January 1st, 2020. This will afford fuel producers time to conform to the new Sulphur requirements.
Ships will also have the option to meet the new SOx requirments by using exhaust scrubbers, similar to the units for which Agilis Technologies has supplied mist eliminator units.
Agilis Technologies has been provideing AL6XN built Mist Eliminators for SOx scrubber systems in both foreigh and domenstic ships. With the new Sulphur content ruling, the need for more exhaust scrubber systems is expected to rise.
